Continue reading

P- Sí, ya me he dado cuenta.

Hooray! They’re releasing the ads like wild wombats out of a gunnysack, all of them for the Xbox Kinect which they say will change OUR ENTIRE LIVES. Yes indeed, no doubt that it will, at least the way we look at playing video games at home. Just [yesterday] we shared with you the first video, one that now appears to have been a chopped up version of the following videos which are categorized as Kinect for Xbox 360 (all encompassing), Kinect Sports, Kinect Adventures, and the extremely exciting video about what might be a glimpse into the future of interactive entertainment: Xbox LIVE with Kinect.

Michael Hedges Purchases 4,500 iPads

No joke, Michael Hedges purchased 4,500 iPads. Not for himself, of course, but for his company Medtronic to use. Michael Hedges is the CIO, vice president, and head of global IT over at Medtronic, a company of 40,000 employees. Hedges was one of the first corporate users to take an interest in the iPad, switching the normally gigantic expensive displays at a trade show Medtronic sets up at with iPads at its booth – less than a week after the iPad was released.

The reason Hedges chose to ship 10 iPads to the show just days after the US release was a simple one – they didn’t have them there yet. Europe at that moment hadn’t had a release of the… Continue reading

Google Street View Car Cameras Grab Emails and Passwords

Those cars that drive around your city with the multi-view cameras on the top aren’t there to abduct you, they’re there to be your friend and provide you with the service of being able to see any street you like through GoogleMaps in real-life color and up-to-date imagery. That’s it, right? It was supposed to be all good, but Google seems to be continuously running into trouble with this service, from capturing streakers and thieves to now perhaps accidentally collecting full emails and passwords.

Today regulators in more than 30 countries (obviously, the same countries that have the cars driving around) are looking into this issue of capturing and displaying data through the online street map service. The fact that this… Continue reading

France Launching Palm Pre 2, WebOS 2.0

France is running around crazy with their new telephones today, all jumping into the air, swinging around signposts, falling down into train station holes. Why? Because today is the day they get their Palm Pre 2, launched on the SFR network. The pricing is between € 99.90 on contract and on up to € 399.90 off-contract. This lovely little device is rocking the P102UEU, which means it’s a wild animal.

This Palm Pre 2 has a AZERTY keyboard, which, if you’re not familiar with, is very similar to the QWERTY you’re used to, but a bunch of the keys are switched around to be more friendly to the French dictionary. This French version is also working on European 3G bands, which means… Continue reading

Apple MacBook Air to Sell 700,000 Units in Fourth Quarter 2010, Analyst Predicts

On Wednesday, Apple’s Steve Jobs stood on stage and, as he usually does, said that he had one more thing to announce after the event supposedly ended. This time around, after unveiling plenty of new additions to the software front, Jobs introduced the brand new line-up of MacBook Air. Featuring a 13- and 11-inch model, the new laptops are certainly some of the most attractive pieces of hardware Apple has released to date. And if you find yourself wanting one, or planning on buying one, you’re apparently not alone, as an analyst has come forward to predict that Apple will sell 700,000 units by the end of the fourth quarter, 2010.

Mingchi Kuo is the Vice President of Concord Securities… Continue reading

AT&T Beginning to Transition to LTE-Capable SIM Cards

The transition to 4G is a slow one, but one that customers (and companies) are eagerly looking forward to. With 4G, customers will get improved data speeds, along with other improvements to the network. For AT&T, that means the introduction of an LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based network, which will include devices and smartphones alike. But, without a planned roll-out made publicly available, everyone is still waiting to hear when AT&T plans on rolling out 4G, and where. That’s not stopping them from sending out internal memos about transitioning to LTE-capable SIM cards, though.

According to a leaked photo of an internal AT&T memo, Ma Bell is getting ready to transition to LTE. The company has begun its standard procedure for preparing its… Continue reading

Human Easily Beats Expert Bowling Robot [Video]

Robots are getting more advanced every day, especially as the designers behind them test new ground. But, even if some consider the fact that a robot beat a world-class Shogi player for the first time ever a few weeks back the sign of End Times, perhaps there’s a bit of solace in the fact that a human easily beat a robot bowler. In fact, the robot is actually considered an “expert bowling robot,” but that didn’t mean anything to the human opponent, who managed to beat the expert easily enough.

MacBook Air 11.6″ Review

Steve Jobs’ views on budget ultraportable are pretty clear. “We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk,” he told investors back in 2008, and so the new 2010 MacBook Air is neither of those things. Instead, it’s a $999+ slice of instant-on notebook and, if you believe the hyperbole, pulls together the best of Apple’s MacBook range and their best-selling iPad. It doesn’t hurt that it’s almost indecently fabulous looking, too. Check out the SlashGear review of the 11.6-inch MacBook Air 2010 after the cut.

The first-generation MacBook Air polarized opinion more than most of Apple’s products. Fans praised its ultra-slim design… Continue reading

Adult Swim’s latest Flash game climbs the corporate ladder

Continuing its tradition of putting out quality, humorous browser-based games, Adult Swim recently launched its latest pixelated onus: Corporate Climber. The game’s a simple platformer where the player ascends through the ranks of a major, criminally unsafe business by literally ascending through said business’ corporate headquarters. Basically, it’s like an episode of The Office, only it’s way more violent, and way, way less awkward.

Interplay claims it wanted $50 million for Fallout rights, Bethesda refused

The neverending tiff between Interplay and Bethesda over development of a Fallout-based MMO recently got a bit more backstory on the end of the former. Interplay president Eric Caen recently said in an interview with Edge that Bethesda was offered the rights to the Fallout MMO for $50 million, explaining that “the MMOG strength of this universe is huge.” According to Caen, Bethesda passed on the license for a Fallout MMO, which Interplay then began developing with certain “conditions” established by Bethesda — such as a required development start date of April 4, 2009.

The rest, as they say is history — Bethesda filed a termination letter for Interplay to stop working on the project last year, claiming that… Continue reading

Taiko Drum Master Wii adds four-player support, party games

For some, the sound of one person banging on a plastic drum peripheral just isn’t enough. Two? Not gonna cut it. Now four, that might get the decibel level high enough. Good thing, then, that Namco Bandai’s next Taiko Drum Master game for Wii, Taiko Drum Master Wii: Everyone Party, will let four players cooperate and compete simultaneously when it launches in Japan on December 2.

In addition to the traditional song-playing modes, the game will sport several party minigames, including battling against crocodiles, fighting ghosts and collecting treasure while combating a giant squid. (We made one of those up.*)

Even though @font-face was introduced in the CSS2 spec in 1998, it wasn’t until this past year that all in-use web browsers added support for it.
